CLIENTS & PROFITS PRESIDENT SPEAKS AT NAPLES AAF MEETING
"Managing Chaos” is key to growing agency’s success

August 28, 1998 -- OCEANSIDE, CA -- In these lean times, "business as usual" could evolve into "business as used to" without knowing how -- and where -- to squeeze profits and when to expand your services. Can an agency survive -- and prosper -- with slim margins, hairpin turnarounds and the whims of consumers?

A survey by the American Association of Advertising Agencies shows that for every one dollar of billing, agencies retain less than one cent of profit. With those anorexic profit margins, what does it take to make an agency survive -- and grow -- in today's marketplace?

The key is finding and maintaining a balance between your clients' needs and your agency's profit goals.

Brad Manning addressed the Fourth District American Advertising Federation in Naples, Fla. on Sept. 19, 1998, presenting a case study approach to agency growth in "Managing Chaos -- Directing Growth for Booming Businesses."

"A growing agency is a wonderful thing," Manning said. "But left undirected it could exceed it's limit and collapse. That’s why it is imperative to control growth without stifling it."

And he would know. Prior to joining Clients & Profits, Manning was the chief financial officer of one of the largest, locally owned advertising agencies in Dallas, Texas, an agency that ballooned from a staff of 25 to 85 in just a 18 months. Understanding that management of that growth was key to getting the agency through its expansion, Manning shouldered the responsibility of choosing, installing and implementing a new agency management software. He chose Clients & Profits.
