WHY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA?
That's easy. We were born here, went to school here, or picked
up and decided to move here. The founder of Clients & Profits,
Mark Robillard, is a 5th-generation California native. He
started the in a North Hollywood apartment, moved a little
blue cottage in Pacific Beach, then up to Oceanside when
business boomed. That was 1988.
Why Oceanside? Well, why not. Oceanside is a beach city
on the freeway between San Diego and Orange County, just
south of the center of Southern California. It's a small
town with a big sandy beach. Lots of space,
not very crowded, reasonable traffic, and (at the time)
inexpensive houses. We got cheap rent in the corner of
a brand-new triangle-shape office
that we'd never thought we'd never outgrew, then did. Now
we occupy the entire top floor and our name's on the side
of the building.
While we have connections worldwide, all of the software
R&D, QA, web design, sales, and support is done right here
on Oceanside Boulevard.
Once in a while we talk about moving ...
maybe San Francisco, maybe Chicago, maybe even New York. But
after 22 years in SoCal, we've got roots that go deep. It works
for us having one location, everyone in the same place at the
same time. And we have this work space with a theater, a nirvana
nook, a museum of vintage Macs, artwork everywhere, and all its
funky angles that would be difficult to recreate
in an average office building. We'd miss all that.
The weather keeps most of us from leaving. Summers, without a
doubt, are nothing less than awesome. And winter in SoCal? Can't
beat it. It's not surprising that our mid-winter training classes
were always the most popular. Who doesn't want to come to sunny
San Diego in January?
In the end,
they're all good reason to stay put.
